Lead

In a song, the lead is equivalent to the main melodic line. It's oftentimes the first things listeners notice, and the thing that sticks with them after they've turned off the song. It is in many ways the driver of the musical journey. This role is most often taken on by vocals.

My lead in college has been Japanese. So much of my career sights and community has been a direct result of my drive to learn Japanese. I have had some amazing experiences and met great people through my language exchanges, study abroad, etc. and hope to work with a Japanese organization after graduation.

I was so overly confident in my Japanese ability when I started 201 my first quarter at UW. I was excited at the new feeling.

Every quarter since then I have been humbled and proud as I look on my growth and how far my skills have come, little by little. My understanding of language, my approach to language learning, is changing as is my own manner of assessing my skills.

I am less confident in my Japanese ability now than ever before, but I've also become much better. Seeing the journey, quarter by quarter, conversation by conversation, moment by moment has been both rewarding and fun.
